« Garrigues » Country

Follow signs for Bagnols sur Cèze to the village of Saint Hippolyte de Montaigu. This is the smallest village in the Uzège and is situated at the foot of Mont Aigu, 257 metres high, from which there are magnificent panoramic views. The village has plenty of charm with its square tower and Romanesque church.
Take the D125 across the « garrigue » towards Flaux, The village is at the bottom of the valley and is clustered around a well-restored 18th century château. Take the D4, which leads to Saint Siffret. Its Romanesque church, 2 châteaux (one of which was a Templar residence) and narrow, twisting streets and alleyways make this village well worth visiting. The 'garrigue' countryside is all around and we recommend a walk through the colours and scents of cistus, lavender, asphodel, honeysuckle and thyme.
Go back to the D982, which takes you back to Uzès.

From Saint Siffret to Pomeyron
Saint Siffret is special because he was re-baptised at the time of the Revolution. This happened at a council meeting. The « Citizen Mayor » decided that, because Saint Siffret was known as a fanatical judge, his name should be changed to Pomeyron. No one knows to this day why this new name was considered better!
