This narrow, steeply sloping street is one of the most picturesque in town.
At the bottom, the very, very ancient fountain is protected by a grill: it is here the Uzès story started, as witness the remnants of ancient Greek fortifications.
Turn left, and on the other side of Portalet is the superbly situated St Théodorit's Cathedral.
