Uzès today
The 20th century has seen the town's re-birth. The downtown was listed in 1965, at the instigation of Malraux, and from then on restoration of the town's considerable heritage began. The town is now home to the National Stud, the CHS, Mas Careiron … and has a media library. There are 3,500 school pupils. Today, the town offers a variety of activities and entertainments (festivals, fairs and markets), along with attractive shops, making it a dynamic place to live.
At the start of the 21st century, Uzès is, more than ever, a small capital with a big reputation.
Memories of ZAN Zan was one of the leading liquorice producers in Uzès. It later became Haribo. Ricqlès Zan is still active in the town. Its museum at Pont des Charrettes (established in 1996) is one of the greatest tourist successes of the last ten years.
