At the water's edge
Take the D 981 towards Avignon, then the D 305 to Saint
Maximin. Water came here from Uzès, having been tapped by the Romans. There is a waymarked walk linking the various remains of the aqueduct. The village has a number of other attractions: a château, the « Maison Racine » and a church (worth visiting for its beautifully restored organ.) Pick up the road leading to Uzès and, at the entrance to the town, follow signs for Nîmes and then take a right turn to Blauzac, another village full of attractions. Close by is the Pont Saint Nicolas, which overlooks the River Gardon. Follow the path that takes you past a large number of « capitelles » (small stone-built shepherds' shelters). Follow signs for Nîmes as far as La Bégude, then take the D112 to Sanilhac. You are now entering the Gorges du Gardon. There is a path which leads from the village to « la Baume » with its hermitage, chapel, water mills (one is liable to flooding) and caves. On the way back visit the château, the tower and the church.
Follow signs for Uzès and stop off at Sagriès, Sagriès, a hamlet outside Sanilhac. Shortly after, cross over the Seynes River and enter Uzès.

The Gardon Gorge, an ideal scene for a film ?
Part of the film « Le Salaire de la Peur » by Henri Georges Clouzot was shot here between 1951 and 1953. At the end of the film, the film's hero, Mario, was killed in a road accident between Poulx and the Pont Saint Nicolas.
