12 - The Bishop's Tower

The tower formed part of Chateau Rainon the existence of which can be traced back to 1156. Probably built at about the same time as the Bermonde Tower (Duchy Tower), it belonged to the Bishops up until the Revolution; within its walls were a Guards' Room and a prison. In 1828, a turret was added to house the Town Clock. The Tower has belonged to the town council since 1829.
