Uzège is a rural area heavily marked by diversified agriculture. At first glance, you'll notice the pervasive presence of vineyards in the landscapes of our region. They stretch over roughly 6,000 hectares of a variety of soils, colonizing both flat terrain and the hillsides. In the spring, you'll enjoy discovering the blooming fruit trees which will provide your summer table with cherries and apricots.
Little by little, olive groves are making a come back in Uzège for the production of picholine olives, delicious with cocktails, and olive oil, the secret to Mediterranean cooking. How does one forget the melon, bursting with sun, and the asparagus grown for over half a century which, even though edged out by the vineyard, remains a preferred crop of our farmers.
The major crops, represented for the most part by durum wheat and the sunflower, round out this panorama of Uzège agriculture. Finally, you're probably asking yourself why there are so many oak trees around: don't let the secret out, its for the production of that so coveted mushroom: the truffle!
