Sanilhac et Sagriès

The commune of Sanilhac-Sagriès is located between Nîmes and Uzès. Its feature is that it is composed of two villages, 3 km separate the two.
Sanilhac, situated on a plateau between the Valsegane and Rial valleys, was built in 1156 around a château surrounded by ramparts.
The village originally had three defence towers, today only one remains "La Tourrasse". Everything else has disappeared. The church was built over the ruins of the château. The current one, located in the heart of the village, is more recent.
Sagriès, situated near the "Seynes", used to belong to the Deanery of Uzès. It was attached to Sanilhac by Royal Edict on April 5, 1814.

A very pleasant walk down the G.R. 6, which winds around the hill through its blanket of holly, evergreen oaks, juniper and strawberry trees, leading to the splendid Gorges of the Gardon, to the place known as La Baume. This site has several structures worth seeing: a Romanesque chapel (the Hermitage of Saint Veredeme) former pilgrimage shrine and watermills, including a submersible one, a quite unique landmark of the lower Gardon, a 150 m cave to explore in its entirety attesting to its occupation since the Palaeolithic.

To see :
 • Roman dungeon "la Tourasse" (14th century))
 • Church (14th century)
 • Romanesque chapel of Saint-Vérémède
 • Baume Saint-Vérémède
 • Gorges of the Gardon
