Saint-Victor des Oules, with its Madone, its clock, its château rehabilitated in the 19th century and its ewes, seems to be quite the traditional village. It however has a very pronounced character which it gets from its amazing undersoil: an inexhaustible refractory clay deposit of assorted colours, exploited since the Neolithic.
"OULES" are stock pots, kitchen utensils. In the Middle Ages, Saint-Victor sold its earthenware in Avignon and Nîmes not far from the Dourquier quarter (dourco = jug). Generations of potters succeeded one another until the last kiln went out in 1873. Saint Victor then became a village of "earth miners".

As for the stroller, he/she will appreciate the unusual sandstone rocks, the diversity of the flora and the perpetually green underbrush thanks to the springs, one of which feeds the old washery. If he/she climbs the Montaigu (a volcano, according to legend) which was once an acropolis (between the 5th and 1st century B.C.), he/she will marvel at the view, which spans from the Cévennes all the way to the Alpes de Provence.
