11 - Ancien Évêché
A Bishopric until the French Revolution, Uzès was a very rich town at the end of the 18th Century.
Then in 1970, Nîmes took its place as bishopric. The Palace became a prison and sub-prefectoral office which it remained until 1926. Today, it is still a barracks and law court.
An elegant four storey with a beautiful façade, the right wing houses the G. Borias Museum with a fine collection of ancient ceramics from the area.
One room is devoted to Charles and André Gide who lived in Uzès.
